Quinteros:Beginnig against Argentina and Bolivia is amazing

Gustavo Quinteros, head coach of Ecuador looks during a training session

Gustavo Quinteros is the man Ecuador have turned to in a bid to reach the FIFA World Cup™ for the fourth time in their history. His appointment as Reinaldo Rueda’s successor came at the start of this year and was prompted by his achievement in becoming the first coach to win consecutive league titles with Emelec.
His task of steering La Tri to Russia 2018 begins in October and, as fate would have it, Ecuador’s opening two fixtures could not be more meaningful for the new man at the helm. “Isn’t it amazing that I should have to start against Argentina and Bolivia?” he tellsFIFA.com, unable to suppress a belly laugh at the fact that the fixture list for the upcoming qualifying competition should pitch his new side against the country of his birth first of all and then against the nation he later chose to play for.
Quinteros was born 50 years ago in Argentina and learned his trade as player there before forging a reputation as a dependable centre-half in Bolivia. So dependable was he in fact that, after taking out Bolivian nationality, he earned a place in the Verde squad that appeared at USA 1994. He further strengthened his ties with the national team by taking charge of it between 2010 and 2012.
Contemplating his conflicting feelings and struggling to put his thoughts into words, Quinteros said: “I’ve got a lot of affection for Bolivia and, as an Argentinian… facing Argentina... It’s a mix of emotions for me. I’ve always been an Argentinian football fan, and I always think about their qualification chances and whether they can win the World Cup or the Copa America.
“On the one hand it’s fantastic to be facing them, and on the other it’s causing me a bit of distress, the fact that I’ll have to hear the national anthem from the other side, the people…”
Collecting his thoughts, he managed to put the nature of his task into words: “You have to beat them and play better because you’ve put a team together and you’re a professional. I have to defend Ecuador 100 per cent, though I don’t like doing it. I don’t like beating Argentina.”
The right blend
Dislike it or not, Quinteros has made a habit of making life hard for the country of his birth. During his Bolivia tenure he twice faced La Albiceleste in Argentina, avoiding defeat on both occasions.
The first of those games was a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the 2011 Copa America, a scoreline Quinteros' charges later repeated in the qualifiers for Brazil 2014. “They were historic results for Bolivia and the team played very well,” he explained. “We negated Messi and five or six others too. Messi’s the best of the lot, but Argentina have got a lot of other matchwinners and amazing players too. They’re the best South American team of the last few years.”
We need to make ourselves strong in Quito, give as good as we get against everyone when we’re on the road and keep our intensity levels up for the whole 90 minutes.
Ecuador head coach Gustavo Quinteros
Though Quinteros had plenty of time in which to plan for those games – time that he made the most of – his preparations for Ecuador’s trip to Buenos Aires on Thursday 8 October will be somewhat different, as he explained: “We’ve got less time to work with now but we’ve still got a strong team. Ecuador have some fine players and if we can be at our very best, then we’ve got a chance of coming away with a good result, and not just in Argentina, but anywhere.
“The key will be cutting off Argentina’s passing from the back and forcing them to mix it up a lot and hit long balls and then make them fight for the knockdowns,” he added, before making it clear that La Tri will not be sitting back waiting. “We need to stick together as a unit but also make sure we do so far away from our own area. If we let them bring the ball out nice and cleanly and get their passing game going, then they’re going to put a lot of dangerous attacks together.
“Any of their players could make life hard for us with a shot, a one-two or a pass, and we have to really press them, stop them from playing and force them to make mistakes so we can capitalise whenever they give us a bit of space.”
On the attack
That is the approach Ecuador will take in their nine away games, though Quinteros and his coaching staff believe the key to getting the edge in a tight qualifying competition is their Quito form.
“We’ll be up against five powerhouses in the qualifiers: Argentina and Brazil, because of their history and players, and Colombia, Uruguay and Chile, who’ve all had success in recent years,” he explained. “As for us, we’re changing the way we play and we need a fair amount of time to bring together everything that we want. We need to make ourselves strong in Quito, give as good as we get against everyone when we’re on the road and keep our intensity levels up for the whole 90 minutes.”
Following Ecuador’s inconsistent Copa America showing, a tournament in which he believes his side only began to play good football in their third match against Mexico, Quinteros knows what he wants from his players: “We want to be a more attack-minded side, one that presses further up the pitch, gets a few players in the opposition box and takes risks. In short, we need to do all the things a team has to do when it’s at home.”
Quinteros, who cultivated his footballing tastes during spells with Newell’s Old Boys and Argentinos Juniors, is convinced he has the players to achieve his aims: “With the exception of 2010, Ecuador have maintained a pretty high standard. Some important players left but then others came through, and the same thing’s happening again now with Enner Valencia, (Miller) Bolanos, (Angel) Mena and youngsters like (Juan) Cazares.
“Ecuador are engaged in a natural process of renewal and we truly believe we can be competitive and fight for qualification again.”

Jorge Vilda: "Ganas, ilusión y trabajo duro"

SEGUNDO MANDELA SÓ O ESPORTE PODE ENCAMINHAR A JUVENTUDE !

“It was a ten-hour flight to Europe, a continent none of our players had been to until then,” said Theodore Rakotoarimino, a member of the executive committee of the Madagascan Football Federation (FMF), telling FIFA.com about Madagascar’s trip to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015 back in July.
Continuing to discuss the island nation’s first ever appearance in a FIFA World Cup competition, he added: “When the players got there, they were fascinated by the size of the cities, the development of the country and the differences with our island. Our diet in Madagascar is based on rice, a little bit of fish and meat. You can imagine how surprised they were when they were served a bowl of pasta.
“With all these new things to absorb and take in, how were the team supposed to focus on their first match?”
It is with the aim of bridging the experience gap and giving their men’s and women’s teams the exposure and technique they need to compete in international tournaments that the FMF initiated a development policy a few years ago.
Now in 2015, the FMF has embarked on a four-year programme, with the two latest training courses taking place in July in the towns of Tulear and Fianarantsoa, situated respectively in the south-west and the centre of the island. The aim of such initiatives is to give the regions in question a better understanding of the importance of providing grassroots training for youngsters, while also encouraging more children to take up the game.
The two courses and the FIFA Grassroots Festivals gave some 52 local coaches – six of them women – the opportunity to undergo training supervised by Jean-Francois Lebon, the FMF’s national director of football, and FIFA grassroots instructor Yvon Avry. In total, some 1,800 children took part in workshops, training sessions and tournaments across both sites: 896 in Tulear and 850 in Fianarantsoa, including around 200 girls at each.
“Judging by the national director of football’s presentation, the desire and commitment of the teachers and coaches and the enthusiasm with which the youngsters took part in the practical sessions and the festival, Madagascan grassroots football has got a lot going for it,” said Avry, who, following his stay on the island, met with the heads of the five regional leagues to discuss development-related needs.
The fact that the opening practical session attracted some 118 children instead of the expected 40 reflects the huge interest in football on the island. Aware of this passion, the organisers staged local workshops in both towns, with the theory components focusing on the training of teachers and coaches, refereeing, and on grassroots, youth and women’s football.
“A lot of effort has been put in, with an effective training plan and tangible results, though there is a lack of more specific projects and more resources to develop these types of football,” explained Avry. “The meeting with the five leagues and the training courses held in Tulear and Fianarantsoa have given me a better insight into the significant extent to which Madagascar is lagging behind in youth and women’s football.”
Explaining the reasons behind this, the FIFA instructor pointed to the lack of infrastructure for youngsters, a shortage of qualified teachers, the absence of youth competitions and football in schools, scarce funding and the difficulties faced by young women in finding clubs.
Every problem has a solution, however, and given the level of satisfaction derived by the teachers and children who took part in the two events, the obstacles mentioned by Avry can be overcome with the help of the development programmes put in place by the FMF and supported by FIFA.

O MESTRE MOURINHO !

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho signed a new four-year contract to stay in charge of the English champions until 2019, the club announced. The new deal for the 52-year-old was penned just a day before Chelsea begin the defence of their Premier League title at home to Swansea. "If the club is happy, I am happy. I think this is a normal thing for me to sign a new contract," Mourinho said. Mourinho is in his second spell in charge at Stamford Bridge after returning to the west London club in 2013. The Portuguese coach led Chelsea to the Premier League title and also won the League Cup last season, adding to the two English titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups he lifted in his first spell between 2004 and 2007. "It is important we have this continuity and I hope we can enjoy more success in the future -- for the fans, the players and the club," Mourinho said. "I said when I returned here two years ago that I have a special feeling for this club and nothing changed. It is the club closest to my heart and I am very happy to know I will be staying here for a long time." Following his return to Chelsea, the former Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss has often spoken of his desire to stay at Chelsea for as long as owner Roman Abramovich wants him. It is important we have this continuity and I hope we can enjoy more success in the future -- for the fans, the players and the club.Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho Mourinho's original stint at the Bridge ended when he was sacked by Abramovich after a power struggle with the Russian billionaire. But they repaired their relationship sufficiently for Mourinho to be offered an emotional return two years ago and now he is committed to the club for the long-term. "We are very happy that Jose has committed four more years to the club," Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said. "Since his arrival two years ago he has carefully developed the playing squad and brought trophies to Stamford Bridge. We look forward to the next four years and the continued success of the team." Mourinho would dearly love to celebrate his new deal by winning the UEFA Champions League and helping Chelsea become the first team since Manchester United in 2008/09 to clinch successive Premier League titles. But, asked this week what would constitute success this term, Mourinho publicly struck a more cautious note. "I really don't know, because it depends not just about you, it's also about the others," he said. "You can have a good season and somebody was better than you. And I don't consider that failure. I don't consider that a bad season. "If somebody was better than you, a little bit better, a couple of points more than you, one goal more than you in a knockout phase, then I don't think it's a failure. "I just think credit to the others. Let's try to be a good team and let's try to be here in March, April speaking to you about the possibility of winning something."
